Beaver Falls Native To Receive Graduate Student Service Award

University Park, Pa. -- Alison Bell, a Ph.D. candidate in Genetics from Beaver Falls, will be honored with the Graduate Student Service Award during Penn State's annual Student Awards Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, april 29, at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.
The award recognizes students who combine academic achievement with leadership in University or other public activities.
Bell’s research focuses on such cancer biology and women’s health topics as the methylation of the promoter region of the GRPR gene, which is found to increase the risk of lung cancer in women. She is an active member of the Graduate Student Association as a delegate and women’s issues chair, and is a past president of the Association for Women in Science, part of the WISE Institute.
She has also served as vice president for the Graduate Women in Science organization and as graduate student coordinator for the Lion Scout Recruitment Program. Her other activities include membership in the Alpha Epsilon Delta Health Professions and Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership honor societies.
