Graduate Research Exhibition Scheduled

March 13, 2001

University Park, Pa. -- Graduate students throughout Penn State will have an opportunity to showcase their research and creative endeavors at the 16th annual Graduate Exhibition slated for March 24 and 25 at the University Park campus.

As in the past, the Graduate Exhibition includes three components: the Poster session which is open to students in all fields who are engaged in traditional scholarly research; the Performance option which is designed for those graduate students for whom performing -- music, theatre, dance -- is a required part of their graduate degree program; and the Visual Arts display which is designed for those graduate students for whom creating studio work -- drawings, paintings, sculptures -- is a required part of their graduate degree program.

This year, however, there are several significant changes. The Poster session will return to the HUB-Robeson Center and will be held on Sunday, March 25, from noon to 4:00 p.m. in the HUB Alumni Hall and the Robeson Heritage Hall. Entrants in the Visual Arts display will enjoy a new venue in the HUB Gallery, where their works will be displayed for two full weeks, beginning on March 13. The closing awards ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, March 25, at 4:30 p.m. in the HUB Auditorium, will feature encore performances by the winners of the Performance option.

The Performance option will take place on Saturday, March 24, at 7:00 p.m. in the Esber Recital Hall, Music Building I. All events are free and open to the public.

?More than 220 students will participate this year. Students whose presentations are judged best in each of seven categories -- Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Health and Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences, Performance and Visual Arts -- will receive cash awards ranging from $100 to $500. Judges will include faculty members, graduate students and, for the first time, members of the Graduate School Alumni Society Board of Directors.
