Drucker Foundation Chair To Address Penn State Forum

University Park, Pa. – Frances Hesselbein, founding president and chairman of the board of governors for the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, will deliver the Penn State Forum lecture at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 25, at the Penn Stater. The topic of her presentation is “Leadership Challenges in a New Century.”

One of America's most successful businesswomen, Hesselbein has been with the Drucker Foundation since its inception in 1990, and currently serves on numerous nonprofit and private sector corporate boards. She is editor-in-chief of the quarterly journal, Leader to Leader, and co-editor of three volumes of the “Drucker Foundation Future Series,” which has been translated into sixteen languages. From 1989 to 1990, she was chairman of the board of governors of the Josephson Institute for the Advancement of Ethics.

In 1998, Hesselbein was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the United States’ highest civilian honor, for her leadership as chief executive officer of Girl Scouts of America from 1976 to 1990, as well as her role in leading social-sector organizations toward excellence in performance through her work at the Drucker Foundation. Her contributions were also recognized by former President Bush, who appointed her to two presidential commissions on national community service.

Hesselbein’s international work includes serving as chairman for world conferences and seminars. She has addressed audiences worldwide on topics such as philanthropy, corporate social responsibility, leadership and managing nonprofit organizations.

The Penn State Forum is a lunchtime speaker series offered by the Faculty Staff Club and is sponsored in part by the Penn State Bookstore. It is open to the public. Tickets are $10 for members and $12 for non-members and include lunch. Reservations can be made by mail or by stopping by the Faculty Staff Club office at 103 HUB-Robeson Center. Tickets will be on sale at the door on a first-come, first-served basis. Lunch begins at 11:30 a.m. followed by the speech and a question-and-answer session at noon.
