id+ Teams Up With PNC Bank, Adds New Feature To PSU ID
University Park, Pa. – Beginning in Spring 2002, Penn State students, faculty and staff who are customers of PNC Bank will have the option of linking their University identification card, “id+”, to a PNC Bank checking account. This option would enable PNC Bank customers to use id+ as a MAC/ATM card.
“PNC Bank is a logical choice for the Penn State id+ program,” said Gary Schultz, senior vice president for finance and business. “The financial institution’s geographic footprint relates well to that of the University’s. Both parties share a strong commitment to providing quality service and both are at the forefront of using new technologies to benefit customers.”
Currently, Penn State Federal Credit Union (PSFCU) and M&T Bank customers may use their id+ cards in this capacity. One advantage to utilizing the id+ card for MAC/ATM purposes is that all PSFCU and M&T ATMs on campus and in State College are surcharge free. This means that a customer of PSFCU may withdraw money from any M&T ATM without being charged and vice versa. The same will hold true in the spring for PNC Bank when it’s customers join id+.
There is no charge to link id+ cards to checking accounts. Another benefit to using an id+ card as a MAC/ATM card is the security of having your photo on the card. If an id+ card is lost or stolen, it can be replaced immediately by visiting the id+ office in 103 HUB-Robeson Center.
Close to 100,000 people across the Penn State system currently hold an id+ card. This identification card does much more than acts as an ID. id+ can be used for access to Penn State facilities, at on-campus dining, the Penn State Newspaper Readership Program and University Libraries. At the University Park, Altoona and Erie campuses, cardholders may utilize the Lion Cash feature, where a chip on the card holds value for payment in laundry machines, copiers, vending machines and other purchases both on- and off-campus. id+ users spent $1.8 million with their Lion Cash chips during the last fiscal year.
