Gage Receives Staff W. Lamarr Kopp International Achievement Award
H. Mary Gage, recently retired director of the Undergraduate Fellowships Office, is the recipient of the W. LaMarr Kopp Staff International Achievement Award. This award honors staff members who have contributed significantly to the University's mission of helping the international community.
Under her direct tutelage, 157 students have won international competitions for prestigious fellowships, including the Mitchell, Marshall, Fulbright, Javits, National Security Education Program and Rhodes Scholarships. Under her tenure, the University's placement record in this respect compared favorably to other large public universities, even those with far larger fellowship offices.
A graduate of Cambridge University in England, Gage came to Penn State in 1987 as an associate professor teaching playwriting, screenwriting and feature journalism at the undergraduate and graduate level. Prior to becoming director of the Undergraduate Fellowships Office, she was University Fulbright Program advisor and academic officer for the Education Abroad Programs.
A accomplished journalist, novelist, screenwriter and playwright, Gage wrote "My Name is Pablo Picasso," which has had two prductions in New York City, at the South Street Theatre and the American Theatre of Actors.
