Penn State Offers Alternative To Alcohol-Related Activities
August 1, 2001
University Park, Pa. – Every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night for 16 weeks each semester, the University’s HUB-Robeson Cultural Center and White Building offer an assortment of alcohol-free entertainment as part of the LateNight-Penn State initiative.
LateNight-Penn State was developed in 1996 as an alternative to alcohol-related activities on weekends and complements other alcohol-free activities on campus, such as sports and residence hall activities. The program offers free movies, dances, swimming, concerts, comedy, board games, video games, magic and arts and crafts from 8 p.m. to midnight Thursday night and 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights.
Other colleges and universities, including Michigan State University, have adopted similar programs. Earlier this year, LateNight-Penn State was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a model alcohol and drug prevention program on college campuses.
