London To Receive Lethbridge Tolerance Award
April 25, 2001
University Park, Pa. -- Erika London, of Farmington Hills, Mich., will receive the Jackson Lethbridge Tolerance Award during the University's annual Student Awards Ceremony at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel.

The Lethbridge Award is presented to students for outstanding efforts to enhance the understanding of diverse cultures and create a community where all individuals are accepted and valued equally. The award is named for its benefactor, a Penn State alumnus.

London will graduate this semester from the English program, following a college career marked by advocacy for a variety of student communities. She has been active with the Lambda Delta Lambda sorority, which is open to all women regardless of sexual orientation; and served as president of the Panhellenic Council for the Penn State Greek system.

Her work with the council has built relationships with African-American and multicultural organizations on campus, addressed acts of intolerance in the local community, and recognized the importance of Asian and Latino chapters to the University’s overall Greek community. She has also bolstered participation in Penn State Greek life (alongside the Panhellenic Council and the Interfraternity Council) by the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and helped establish a joint marketing plan for the three councils.
