LINGIS TO SPEAK AT U.N. CONFERENCE IN LITHUANIA IN APRIL

University Park, Pa. -- Alphonso Lingis, professor of philosophy, has been invited to be a keynote speaker at the United Nation's  International Conference, Dialogue among Civilizations, April 23-26 in Vilnius Lithuania.  The conference is co-chaired by H.E. Valdas Adamkus, president of the Republic of Lituania and Kiochiro Matsuura, director general of UNESCO. 

            Conference workshop presenters include heads of states, renowned scholars in comparative civilizations, and prominent artists who will discuss ways to build mutual understanding among civilizations. 

            Lingis specializes in phenomenology and existentialism, modern philosophy, and ethics.  He teaches classes on ethics and Nietzsche, among others, and his latest publications include Sensation: Intelligibility in Sensibility (1995), The Imperative (1998) and Dangerous Emotions (1999).
