Penn State Promises Strict Commencement Security Measures
May 7, 2001
University Park, Pa. -- In response to recent incidents, Penn State police have announced that strict security measures will be in place for all commencement ceremonies at University Park. Commencement ceremonies take place on Friday, May 11th, Saturday, May 12th and Sunday May 13th.
Among the security measures in force will be metal detectors at the entrances to both Eisenhower Auditorium and the Bryce Jordan Center. Since passing through the metal detectors can slow the flow of people into the buildings, University officials are asking people to arrive at least 30-60 minutes prior to the scheduled start of the ceremony and to be patient while gaining access to the buildings.
So that they would not compromise security measures, police declined to outline all the other actions being taken, but have offered assurances that all steps are being taken to ensure a safe commencement ceremony.
