March Madness Alive At The Bryce Jordan Center;
Fans Welcome To View Game Free On BJC Big Screen
March 21, 2001
University Park, Pa. – Miss out on catching the Nittany Lion basketball team in action at the Bryce Jordan Center this season? There will be at least one more chance for fans to experience the electric atmosphere of Penn State basketball from the Bryce Jordan Center this Friday – even though the team will be playing nearly 1,000 miles away in Atlanta’s Georgia Dome.
Students and fans both on campus and in the community are encouraged to watch the Nittany Lions take on Temple in the NCAA Tournament live on the Jordan Center’s state-of-the-art big screen scoreboard monitors.
Doors will open at 8:30 p.m. as highlights from the 2000-2001 men’s basketball season are being shown on the monitors. At 9 p.m., a pep rally featuring the Penn State dance team, cheerleaders, majorettes, pep band, and the Nittany Lion mascot will lead into the start of the game, which tips-off at approximately 10 p.m. Free throw and other shooting contests will take place on the Jordan Center floor during timeouts and halftime.
Following the game, head coach Jerry Dunn will address the crowd by cellular phone, and the NCAA postgame press conference with Dunn and selected Penn State players will be broadcast live. There will also be late night events offered in the HUB-Robeson Center, including a band in Heritage Hall and activities in White Building.
Admission to the Jordan Center is free and concessions will be open. Students will be able to purchase $0.25 soft drinks, $0.50 hot dogs, and $1.00 pizza slices by showing their ID.
Should Penn State topple Temple and advance to the South Regional final on Sunday afternoon at either 2:30 p.m. or 5 p.m. (game time to be determined), a similar game broadcast and pep rally program will be offered at the Jordan Center, with gates opening one and a half hours prior to the selected game time.
If the Nittany Lions continue their remarkable winning streak and earn a berth in the NCAA Final Four, a welcome home rally and celebration for the players and coaches would be tentatively scheduled for Sunday evening at the Jordan Center. Doors for this event would open at 8:30 p.m., followed by a 9:30 p.m. pep rally and introductions of coaches and senior player captains.
