Major changes are planned for Pollock Road starting over Spring Break. As outlined in the University's Campus Master Plan, the entire area between the HUB and Osmond Laboratory is to be converted into a pedestrian friendly plaza with enhanced landscaping, a water feature, and restricted vehicular access. The original roadway and adjoining areas will be torn up and replaced with brick pavers similar to those behind Old Main. The entire area will be transformed into a relaxing shaded mall with many new seating opportunities. The project is not expected to be completed until the end of Summer Semester, but the first stages which involve the installation of two, 24 inch chilled water lines will begin at the start of Spring Break.
Initial staging for Phase I of the new HUB Plaza project will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, March 1. Pollock Road will be closed to traffic from Shortlidge Road to the west end of the HUB until Sunday, March 10. Access to the Yellow H parking area behind Osmond Building will only be available from the west, and there will be no access to Brown G parking on the weekend of March 1, 2, and 3. Some access to the HUB/Bookstore loading dock will be maintained for truck shipments only. Contractors will work 24 hours a day until Monday morning, March 11, when they will shift to a 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. schedule. Construction will last until the end of March when Pollock Road will be temporarily reopened until after Commencement.
During the short period from the end of March to May 13, Pollock Road will only be paved with street gravel, since major plaza construction begins immediately after Commencement. It is requested that the University community be patient during these changes and look forward to the enjoyment of these major improvements. The highlights of the construction schedule for the HUB Plaza project, Phase 1 are outlined below:
Friday, March 1
· Mobilization and staging of equipment.
· Remove planters and center posts from East Pollock Gate (access from West Pollock unrestricted until construction complete).
· 6 p.m. - Milling of asphalt from Davey to Shortlidge commences.
Friday, March 1 @ 6 p.m. - Monday, March 4 @ 6 a.m.
· Pollock closed to thru traffic.
· No access to Brown G. (near Henderson) (weekend only)
· Access to Yellow H (behind Osmond) from Pollock between
Osmond and Bouke, access to Pollock via Shortlidge (from east).
· Contractor working 24 hrs per day.
Monday, March 4 @ 6 a.m. - Sunday, March 10 @ 12 a.m.
· Pollock closed to thru traffic.
· Access to Brown G and Yellow H from Pollock via Burrowes (from west).
· Access to HUB/Bookstore Dock from Pollock via Shortlidge (from east).
· Contractor working 24 hrs per day.
March 11 - March 22
· Continue to work east toward Shortlidge.
· Access to Yellow H and Brown G from Pollock via Burrowes (from west).
· Contractor working 7 a.m. - 7 p.m.
March 23 - 24 (weekend)
· Shortlidge/Pollock intersection closed.
May 13 - August 1
· Plaza construction to completion.
