EIGHT NAMED TO RECEIVE DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI AWARDS
University Park, Pa. -- The Penn State Board of Trustees today (Jan. 17) selected eight Penn State alumni to receive the Distinguished Alumni Award, the University's highest award for an individual.
Following are the 2003 Distinguished Alumni, year of graduation, and current title:
Mr. Peter M. Carlino, of Reading, PA, a 1969 bachelor's degree graduate in general arts and sciences from the College of the Liberal Arts. He is Chairman and CEO of Penn National Gaming, Inc.
Dr. Thomas E. Clarke, of Portland, OR, a 1980 doctoral degree graduate in physical education from the College of Health and Human Development. He is President of New Ventures, Nike, Inc.
Mr. Kenneth C. Frazier, of Newtown, PA, a 1975 bachelor's degree graduate in political science from the College of the Liberal Arts. He is Senior Vice President and General Counsel of Merck & Company, Inc.
Mr. Paul Levine, of Studio City, CA, a 1969 bachelor's degree graduate in journalism from the College of Communications. He is Co-Executive Producer/Co-Creator of CBS "First Monday."
Mr. Albert L. Lord, of Annapolis, MD, a 1967 bachelor's degree graduate in accounting from The Mary Jean and Frank P. Smeal College of Business Administration. He is Vice Chairman and CEO of SLM (commonly known as Sallie Mae) Corporation.
The Honorable Roger A. Madigan, of Towanda, PA, a 1951 bachelor's degree graduate in dairy science from the College of Agricultural Sciences. He is State Senator representing the 23rd Senatorial District of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Steve A. McCurry, of New York, NY, a 1974 bachelor's degree graduate in theatre/photography from the College of Arts and Architecture. He is a freelance photographer with international assignments for National Geographic and other entities.
Dr. Kirby Chaur-Shin Yung, of Taipei, Taiwan, a 1978 doctoral degree graduate in vocational industrial education from the College of Education. He is Convener, Education and Culture Division; Chair Professor, Chung Yan Christian University; Professor, National Taiwan Normal University; and Former Minister of Education for Taiwan.
