January 16, 2003

University Park, Pa. – Penn State’s Hydrogen Energy Center will showcase research, Wednesday, Feb. 5, on hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen vehicles and hydrogen fuel production, storage and distribution at a special event for industry and government representatives as well as others interested in the new technologies.

Congressman John Peterson is scheduled to deliver opening remarks. Dr. JoAnn Milliken, technology development manager for hydrogen and fuel cells, U.S. Department of Energy, is the luncheon keynote speaker.

Dr. Bruce Logan, director of the Hydrogen Energy Center and Kappe professor of environmental engineering, says, “This event will bring together faculty members and graduate students from all over campus who are working on hydrogen research. Industry and government agency representatives, as well as anyone with an interest in hydrogen energy and fuel cells, will want to attend this event.”

More than 40 Penn State research programs will be featured in posters and the faculty members and students conducting the projects will be available to talk to registered participants.

Campus tours focusing on hydrogen research will be offered in the afternoon. A panel discussion, reception and dinner will conclude the day.

During dinner, Air Products and Chemicals Inc. personnel will present information on their hydrogen reformer/refueling demonstration project, which is being supported by the Department of Energy and will be sited at Penn State. More information on Air Products’ hydrogen fuel cell activities can be found at http://www.airproducts.com/h2energy/index.asp.
