New SBDC Environmental Specialist Named

University Park, Pa. --- Denise F. Bechdel has been named Penn State’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) environmental specialist.

Bechdel, who succeeds Heather Fennessey, provides free and confidential energy assessments, on- site consulting and workshops for small business owners in a 19-county area in central Pennsylvania. While she is based at Penn State’s University Park campus, she also serves clients in the counties served by SBDCs at the following colleges and universities: Bucknell, Lock Haven, St. Francis, Scranton and Clarion. The territory includes Potter, Tioga, Bradford, Cameron, Clearfield, Clinton, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Union, Snyder, Juniata, Perry, Centre, Mifflin, Huntingdon, Blair, Bedford and Fulton counties.

“Businesses can come to me if they have questions about environmental regulations,” she says. “I’ll also answer questions regarding Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards.”

Before joining Penn State, Bechdel interned for the Department of Environmental Protection in the waste management department for two years. She also owned a small business in the area.

Bechdel earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental resource management at Penn State and her associate degree in environmental technology from Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The Small Business Development Centers are funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the U..S. Small Business Administration, the private sector and their host colleges and universities. This support enables consulting services to be provided at no charge.
