A dozen Penn State engineers have been named to the prestigious National Academy of Engineers. Only 22 other universities around the country have more members in the NAE than Penn State does. Since 2000, Penn State has awarded more than 1,200 engineering bachelors degrees each year. The College of Engineering has also been among the top 3 universities in the number of bachelors degrees granted in each of those years, and granted the most degrees in 2000, 2002, and 2003. Since 2000, the College of Engineering has been in the top four in the number of full-time and part-time undergraduate students enrolled each year. The College has approximately 6,000 part-time and full-time undergraduates. In 2004, the College of Engineering had 342 tenure or tenure-track faculty members. Only three other universities in the United States had more. Penn State awarded the fourth most engineering technology degrees in 2004 with 235. The College of Engineering expended nearly $117.5 million in research in 2004. The College was among the top 15 universities in research expenditures. Penn State offers the largest accredited program in engineering technology in the country. Penn State offers one of the largest varieties of engineering programs in the country. The University's College of Engineering was included among the nation's top 20 engineering programsNo. 19 according to U.S. News. Highly ranked engineering programs within the college include: industrial/manufacturing engineering (No. 3); nuclear engineering (No. 7); aeronautical/astronautical engineering (No. 13); mechanical engineering (No. 15); environmental engineering (No. 17); electrical/communications engineering (No. 18); chemical engineering (No. 19); and civil engineering (No. 20). |
