    Outreach serves more than 5 million people a year.

    Outreach programs reach people in all 67 Pennsylvania counties, all 50 United States and 80 countries on all seven continents.

    Outreach delivers more than 2,000 programs each year.

    More than 1,500 Penn State faculty are involved in Outreach activities each year.

    Penn State has been reaching out beyond the university for 128 years.

    Penn State Public Broadcasting has one of the largest broadcast coverage areas in the country.

    One in every four households in Pennsylvania has a person participating in Penn State programs.

    More than 50,000 Pennsylvanians serve as Outreach volunteers for master gardener programs, 4-H leadership and other educational programming.

    Penn State Outreach constitutes the largest unified outreach effort in American higher education.

    In 1910, Penn State assigned the nation’s first county extension agent, in Bedford. Today, Cooperative Extension has 300 agents serving all 67 Pennsylvania counties, plus some 100 faculty members with extension responsibilities, and 50,000 volunteers.

    In 2000, 17 students became the first World Campus graduates when they completed the certificate program in geographic information systems.

    Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream owes its creation to a Penn State ice cream correspondence course taken by founder Jerry Greenfield.

    More than 100,000 youth across Pennsylvania are involved in Cooperative Extension’s 4-H clubs, after-school programs and school curriculum-enhancement programs. Just 7,000 are rural farm youth — the rest live in cities, suburbs and towns.

    WPSU-FM radio broadcasts on 91.5 in Central Pennsylvania, 106.7 in Altoona, 100.9 in Bradford, 104.7 in Clearfield, 92.1 in DuBois, 92.3 in Huntingdon, 90.1 in Northern Pennsylvania and 95.1 in Treasure Lake, as well as on the Internet.

    Penn State Public Broadcasting telecasts on analog Channel 3 and digital Channel 15.

    Outreach uses 99 satellite downlink sites in Pennsylvania.
