Receive The Ralph Dorn Hetzel Award

4-01-96
University Park, Pa. -- Michael Ganetsky and Larissa A. Minicucci are the 1996 recipients of the Ralph Dorn Hetzel Memorial Award. The award is presented to two seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and responsible leadership within the University, and who show promise of public spirited achievement in the future. They will be honored at the Student Awards Reception Monday, April 8, at 4:30 p.m. in the Nittany Lion Inn.

Ganetsky is a computer science major and a University Scholar from Philadelphia. He has been active in student government, helping to establish the weekend loop and founding Lion Action -- a group dedicated to grass roots organizing around social issues. Ganetsky's strong social conscience has moved him toward a career in medicine, where he feels he can best help society. He was one of 12 Pennsylvania students interviewed for the Rhodes scholarship in 1995.

Minicucci is an animal bioscience major and a University Scholar from Philadelphia. She has served the Penn State community through SAIL Scholars Service Committee, the Agriculture Student Council, and as a certified Adult Literacy tutor. Minicucci is also a Lion Ambassador and a Big Ten District V representative. She participated in a reforestation project in the Talamanca Mountains in Costa Rica, and is the 1995 homecoming queen.
