Paper On First-Generation College Students Wins National Award

Penn State Professor of Higher Education Patrick T. Terenzini, Leonard Springer, Patricia M. Yaeger, and co-authors from the University of Illinois-Chicago have received the 1995 Forum Best Paper Award from the Association for Institutional Research.

The paper, "First-Generation College Students: Characteristics, Experiences, and Cognitive Development," was one of 68 considered for the award, which was made at the association's annual meeting recently in Albuquerque.

Terenzini is a senior scientist in Penn State's Center for the Study of Higher Education and a professor in the College of Education's Department of Education Policy Studies. Springer recently received a Ph.D. in the graduate program in higher education and Yaeger is a doctoral student in that program.
