A new center designed to provide free assistance to help residents develop their career skills and further their education has opened at Penn State Beaver.
Penn State's Educational Opportunities Centers program is funded by a $2.5 million federal grant from the Department of Education and is sponsored by Penn State. Center offices are located at Penn State Beaver, Penn State DuBois, Penn State Fayette and Penn State McKeesport and serve Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Clearfield, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson and Westmoreland counties.
The program attempts to reach out to disadvantaged groups to help them find educational programs that can prepare them for careers which will enable them to significantly improve their quality of life.
The center's offices provide academic counseling, career assessment and testing, workshop presentations, visits to post-secondary institutions, technical assistance in preparing admissions and financial aid applications, and scholarship searches.
Additionally, the offices make referrals to GED classes and community agencies.
