President Graham B. Spanier is scheduled to speak at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, Aug. 26. The event will include a reception from noon to 12:30 p.m.; lunch from 12:30 to 1 p.m.; and then the address and questions from 1 to 2 p.m.
Spanier's address is scheduled to be carried live by approximately 70 National Public Radio stations around the country. Locally, WPSU-FM (91.5 in State College and Central Pennsylvania; 90.1 in Northern Pennsylvania; 106.7 in the Altoona/Hollidaysburg area; 100.9 in Bradford; 95.1 in the Treasure Lake area; and 104.7 in Clearfield) plans to air the broadcast live, starting at
1 p.m. that day. Depending on events taking place in Washington, Press Club addresses also are often carried live by C-Span.
Spanier will speak about some of the challenges facing higher education in the United States and he will answer questions from the media.
