More than 2,000 athletes representing all 67 counties in Pennsylvania participated in the 30th Pennsylvania Special Olympics, held on the University Park campus June 10-13. The University has been host for the games for more than a decade, and many of the 5,000 volunteers, coaches and spectators work for or are students at the University.

The state-level event featured competition in aquatics, basketball, bowling, equestrian sports, golf, gymnastics, softball, tennis, and track and field.

Pennsylvania Special Olympics provides year-round training and competition in 22 Olympic-type sports to children and adults with mental retardation or closely related developmental disabilities.
