The College of Agricultural Sciences is conducting a national search for professor and head of the Department of Entomology. Former department head James L. Frazier will resume his research and teaching duties after having served 10 years in the post. Charles W. Pitts, who served as department head from 1978-1988, is interim department head.
The individual filling this position is the departmental administrative officer and program leader, and reports directly to the dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences. Duties involve: academic program leadership in resident education, research, and cooperative extension and outreach; administrative responsibility for academic affairs, departmental personnel, financial matters and physical facilities; and leadership in providing effective liaison and coordination of departmental relations within the University, and with students, the agricultural and urban community, entomology and related professions, government, industry and other citizens of Pennsylvania.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in entomology, or a closely related field, plus: a significant period of professional and/or academic experience with a strong record of scholarly activities, including a record of professional accomplishments to qualify as a tenured professor in the department; understanding of the land-grant university system; experience with or in-depth knowledge of university teaching, research and cooperative extension/outreach functions; and strong evidence of potential for administrative leadership and ability to work effectively with others.
