Joseph Cecere, associate professor of engineering at Penn State Harrisburg and chairman of the structural design and construction engineering technology program there, was elected in January to serve on the national board of the Associated General Contractors Research and Education Foundation. The foundation awards $350,000 in scholarships each year throughout the nation. In addition, Cecere is one of only two educators on the AGC National Educational Committee, which oversees ACG's academic initiatives.
Susan Trolier-McKinstry, associate professor of ceramic science and engineering and associate director of the Materials Research Laboratory, will receive the 2000 Robert L. Coble Award for Young Scholars from the American Ceramic Society. The award recognizes outstanding scientists who are conducting ceramics research in academia, industry or government-funded laboratories. She also was recently elected secretary/treasurer of the society's Ceramic Education Council.
