nets $3.6 million thon2

Penn State students once again showed the depth of their commitment to The Four Diamonds Fund, a charity for children with cancer, by raising $3,609,830 during the annual 48-hour Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon at Rec Hall.

More than 2,000 participants, including 660 dancers, put on their boogie shoes and danced the night way to surpass last year's goal by about $600,000thon1.

The top fund-raisers were Alpha Tau Omega and Beta Tau Alpha, collecting $342,345, organizers said.

Dancing is hard work. To stoke the furnaces during the 48 hours of 'Thon, dancers consumed more than 2,000 meatballs, enough nachos to cover most of the Rec Hall floor, about 5,000 waffles and pancakes and 3,500 bagels, according to organizers. They also drank 250 five-gallon jugs of water as well as 2,500 individual-sized bottles of water and about 100 gallons of milk and orange juce. The dancers snacked on thousands of pieces of fruit, 16 trays of grilled stickies and 700 scoops of ice cream.
