University represented in
Congressional internship program
An undergraduate student with a dual major in labor and industrial relations and political science is one of just 30 students nationwide to be selected for a 2001 Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) Summer Internship in Washington, D.C. Roberto Santoni, who just completed his junior year, is the only Penn State student to be chosen from a field of approximately 1,000 applicants.
After a week of familiarizing themselves with Washington, Congress and its culture, the interns will start working full time on Capitol Hill. They will attend weekly workshops and presentations by prestigious professionals and national leaders. Along with other CHCI interns, Santoni will participate in a collaborative community service project and write a research paper about the summer program. The eight-week internship provides all transportation, housing and living expenses.
In addition to winning numerous awards, Santoni is the recipient of the Tracy Winfree McCourtney Scholarship and the John and Arlene Witmer Scholarship, both in the College of the Liberal Arts. He has been a member of the Schreyer Honors College since his freshman year.
