in Brief Volunteer FairThe 10th annual Volunteer Fair will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, at the HUB-Robeson Center on the University Park campus. Departmental listings deadlineUpdates to the local Verizon Bellefonte/State College directory must be submitted to the Consulting and Support Services unit no later than Sept. 6. Participants are asked to consider whether the listing will be of interest to the general public. These listings can be accessible to various outside directory assistance providers. Cross-country runsTwo cross-country runs will be held on the University Park campus as part of the Fall 2002 Centre Region Youth Cross Country Runs. All area youth age 14 and under may participate in the free events, scheduled for Sept. 7 and Oct. 12 on the University Park Cross Country Course. Parents may walk, jog or run along with their children. The runs are co-sponsored by the Centre Region Parks and Recreation Dept., Nittany Valley Running Club, the University and the State College Area School District. GURU changeUsers with versions of Netscape older than 4.06 or Internet Explorer for the Macintosh older than 4.51 may experience problems in secure areas of GURU, the General University Reference Utility. GURU, found at http://guru.psu.edu, houses the University policy manual and other reference-document collections; central offices including Travel Services; and other resources. GURU recommends that users upgrade their browsers to these versions. Acrobat Reader 5.0 is recommended for GURU Fill and Print forms. Users with previous Acrobat Reader versions may encounter problems. Getting aroundThe LOOP and LINK are the University Park campus bus services providing free-fare service around the campus and downtown State College. Four Centre Area Transportation Authority (CATA) Centre Line routes also provide no-fare bus service on the campus as they overlap the busiest portions of the LOOP and LINK routes. A campus shuttle also operates on the University Park campus Monday through Friday at 10 minute intervals. Support network availableA Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Support Network is available on the University Park campus to provide a more hospitable environment for people who are gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender. Sponsored by the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Ally Student Center, the group is a network of individuals who can provide support, information and a safe haven within the University community while respecting confidentiality.
