The Band of the Grenadier Guards is a regiment bearing the title "First or Grenadier Regiment of Foot Guards." The regiment traces its history to Flanders in 1656. The band's main function is that of a regiment band; however its duties also include the Queen's Birthday Parade, the daily Mounting of the Queens Guard at Buckingham Palace and performing at many more of the queen's engagements. In the event of war, the whole band provides enforcement as medical attendants.

The Scots Highlanders trace their ancestry back to 1778 when regiments were raised in the Highlands of Scotland first to counter the crisis in the American colonies, and secondly to meet the threat of revolutionary France. The modern regiment, the newest in the British Army, was formed on Sept. 17, 1994, by the amalgamation of the Queen's Own Highlanders, and the Gordon Highlanders. The pipers and drummers are first and foremost fully trained combat soldiers.
