Savion brings 'da noise
to Eisenhower Auditorium


Savion Glover starred in "Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk" at Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus Dec. 3 and 4. The Center for the Performing Arts show used the rhythms of tap to evoke important periods in the history of African Americans. Here, Glover performs "Slave Ships."

'Winterfest'

The seventh annual "Winterfest: A Choral Celebration" will be presented at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 8, in Eisenhower Auditorium on the University Park campus. Tickets may be purchased in advance for $7 general admission and $3 for students. Tickets purchased at the door will be $8 general admission and $4 for students.

The program features the Penn State Concert Choir, Oriana Singers, University Choir, Women's Chorale, Essence of Joy and Glee Club singing individual selections during the first half. The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Dennis Glocke, will open the second half of the program, and their performance will be followed by the Daniel Pinkham "Christmas Cantata" with combined choirs and brass.

'Our Gift in Song'

Essence of Joy will celebrate its annual Winter Concert, "Our Gift in Song," at 9 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, in Esber Recital Hall on the University Park campus. Tickets are $4 general admission and $2 for students.

The program will include sacred music from the African and African-American traditions including holiday selections. Featured composers will include Kirk Franklin, Richard Smallwood, Andre Thomas and Rosephanye Powell.

Yanni to play

Yanni will bring his pop-influenced instrumentals and romantic piano ballads to The Bryce Jordan Center for a 7:30 p.m. concert on Sunday, March 30, on the University Park campus. In addition to his original television, commercial and film scores, Yanni's music has been used extensively on programs like "Wide World of Sports" and during coverage of the Olympic Games. Yanni has received more than 35 gold and platinum album awards for such releases as "Dare to Dream" and "Reflections of Passion."
