Delaware County announces appointments

Several people recently joined the staff at Penn State Delaware County.

Celia Lang has joined the campus as a career counselor. Lang has worked extensively in the profit and nonprofit business sector and previously held positions as personnel administrator at Clement Communications and associate director of career services at the University of Delaware. She also served on the board of directors of the Chadds Ford Historical Society for three years.

Lang received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and her master of arts degree in counseling and student development from Central Michigan University.

Jermaine Norah is the new multimedia and computer specialist for the campus. Before working at the University, he was the medical illustrator at yoursurgery.com in West Bloomfield, Mich., where he produced medical illustrations for the company's Web site.

Norah received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Rochester Institute of Technology.

Jeannine Miller has joined the campus as the new youth and school programming coordinator in the campus's outreach division. Specifically, Miller will be working on grant-funded programs, contracted training with school districts and non-credit programs for youth.

Miller is a 1990 graduate of Penn State with a degree in human development and family studies. She has eight years of experience in customer service and telecommunications with SAP in Newtown Square.

Robin Giffin has joined the campus as a business development specialist, area representative, in continuing and professional education. Giffin is a 2002 graduate of the campus speech communication degree program and has more than 15 years of corporate sales experience.

Marhefka appointed to Shenango career services position

Penn State Shenango recently hired Beth Marhefka as career services counselor and academic adviser.

In her new position, Marhefka will be responsible for helping students with course selection and assisting in their academic progress toward degree completion; meeting with students individually and in groups to assist them with issues such as choice of major, clarification of career plans, job search skills and graduate school plans; setting up student workshops which will teach resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills and job search strategies; and arranging visits for students to go to career fairs as well as conducting a career fair in the spring.

Marhefka received her bachelor of science degree in mathematical science from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Ga., in 1998 and a master of education in counseling and educational psychology from Slippery Rock University in 2001.

Before coming to the Shenango campus, Marhefka worked as a guidance counselor at Richmond Hill High School in Georgia.

Shenango hires Gerhardt as reference librarian

Penn State Shenango recently hired Margy Gerhardt as reference librarian.

In her new position, Gerhardt will be responsible for providing reference assistance and instruction to students using electronic databases, Web resources and print reference tools.

Before coming to Shenango, Gerhardt was employed by Kent Free Library where she started in the position of children's librarian and was later promoted to public relations coordinator. She also has worked at the Booksource in St. Louis, where she was responsible for developing collections for the public libraries, and at Grove City College, where she was the director of their curriculum library.

Gerhardt received a bachelor's degree in education from Penn State and a master's degree in library science from Clarion University.
