New manager of Employee
Benefits Division joins HR

Karen M. Volmar has accepted the position of manager of the Employee Benefits Division in the Office of Human Resources.

As manager, Volmar directs a staff of 14 in providing services for approximately 14,000 faculty and staff and approximately 5,000 retirees at 23 campuses and other locations. Volmar manages, directs and coordinates activities in various health plans, including the indemnity plan, preferred provider organization and health maintenance organizations, dental and vision plans, life insurance, retirement plans, long- and short-term disability plans, voluntary death and dismemberment plan, flexible spending plans for medical and child care expenses, and health and wellness programs.

Volmar left her position of director of corporate services and compliance officer/staff attorney with Pioneer Behavioral Health in Peabody, Mass., to join the University. She holds a juris doctorate, cum laude, and a master's degree in public health from Boston University Schools of Law and Public Health.
