Practice makes perfect. The
Penn State Blue Band's Touch of Blue majorettes work on their routine
in preparation for their halftime performances during Nittany Lion football
games, above. The twirlers became National Collegiate Halftime Champions
this summer in competition at Notre Dame. They are coached by Heather
Bean. Below: Also busy with pre-game practice is the Penn State
Blue Band. The band's 256 members practice 10 to 12 hours a week for
each football game, a requirement of Music 81, a regularly scheduled
class in the School of Music. The band performs at all home football
games, weather permitting, and will go to one away game this season
-- Michigan Oct. 12. The Blue Band is directed by O. Richard Bundy.
