
Conference To Address Technology's Effect on Education, Culture

University Park, Pa. -- An international conference on "Education and Technology: Asking the Right Questions" will be held at the Penn State Conference Center Hotel Sept.17-20.The conference celebrates the work of Jacques Ellul and Ivan Illich and man's relationship with technology. Rather than focusing on any particular machine or technology, the conference will analyze the collection of technologies, that Ellul called "La Technique" -- those that define and order human life. Presenters will also discuss the role of technology as a vital element of power and influence.
More than 100 papers will be presented. Roundtable discussions will address the crucial question of technology policies and strategies for schools.
