
Illich Questions Technological Assumptions In Institutions

University Park, Pa. -- Visiting professor Ivan Illich, historian/philosopher and author of a dozen critical studies of modern society, will lecture on the technological assumptions and contemporary issues in institutions including schools, medical care and development.The lectures, which are open to the public, will take place Sept. 2 and the following four Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. in 112 Walker Building. Illich will be available to meet with students, faculty and visitors throughout the month of September.
Illich is known for his books, which overturn assumptions in a range of areas. His works include: "Deschooling Society," "Tools for Conviviality," "Toward a History of Needs," "Energy and Equity," "Medical Nemesis," "Shadow Work," "Gender" and "In the Vineyard of the Text."
