Link-To-Learn Milestones

8-6-97
University Park, Pa. -- The fall debut of Link-to-Learn's web site for teacher development is just the latest of several Link-to-Learn milestones:

--June 1997: Lt. Gov. Mark Schweiker, Education Secretary Eugene W. Hickok and AT&T Vice President and General Manager Connie Dean open the AT &T Learning Network Academy at Cheyney University. The academy is a $200,000 statewide technology training program available free of charge to all Pennsylvania's K-12 teachers and administrators. Two training sessions each Saturday, throughout the remainder of 1997, will teach teachers how to use the Internet as a curriculum and teaching tool.

-- April 1997: AT&T opens the first academy at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, to accommodate teachers in the western part of the state.

-- October 1996: Gov. Ridge announces the selection of four project managers who will lead efforts to electronically link learning and research facilities statewide. Directing Link-to-Learn's planning efforts are Dr. James Williams, professor, University of Pittsburgh; Dr. Sandy Kyrish, professor, Temple University; Dr. Kyle Peck, professor, Penn State and Dr. John Gould, with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit.
