
Movie "Amistad" Gets A Penn State Screening, Faculty Forum To Follow

University Park, Pa. -- The movie "Amistad" will make its debut on Penn State's University Park campus on the week of April 20 with seven screenings. A Penn State faculty forum on Thursday, April 23 will discuss the movie's many themes and messages. The dates and times are as follows:-- Monday, April 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: film will be shown in the HUB Assembly Room;
-- Tuesday, April 21 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: film will be shown in the HUB Assembly Room;
-- Tuesday, April 21 from 7 to 10 p.m.: film will be shown in the Paul Robeson Cultural Center;
-- Wednesday, April 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.: film will be shown in the HUB Assembly Room;
-- Thursday, April 23 from noon to 1 p.m.: faculty forum in the Paul Robeson Cultural Center led by Dr. Iyunolu Osagie, author of "The Amistad Unshackled" with Charles Dumas, associate professor of theatre arts; James Stewart, vice provost for educational equity; Jeanne Hall, assistant professor of communications; Shari Roberts, assistant professor of communications; Anthony Olorunnisola, assistant professor of communications; and Carey Fraser, assistant professor of African American studies;
-- Friday, April 24 at 8 p.m.: film will be shown in Findlay Dining Commons;
-- Saturday, April 25 at 8 p.m.: film will be shown in Pollock Rec Room;
-- Sunday, April 26 at 7 p.m.: film will be shown in 121 Sparks Building.
The Penn State screening of "Amistad" is sponsored by the Cultural Lounge Committee of Residence Life, the Department of African and African-American Studies; the Commission on Racial / Ethnic Diversity, the East Halls Residence Association and the North Halls Association of Students.
