
Lecture On Politics And Media In New Zealand, Sept. 17

University Park, Pa. -- Joseph Atkinson, Senior Lecturer in Political Studies at the University of Auckland, will discuss "Silenced Voices: Changing Patterns of Politics and Communication in New Zealand" at a brown-bag, lunchtime seminar at 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 17, in 102 Weaver Building on the University Park Campus.Atkinson brings a rich background in journalism to his academic career. Educated at the University of Canterbury and at Yale (where he wrote his Ph.D. on the White House Staff), his academic teaching and research activity focus on the nexus between politics and the media. He is addressing the implications of the changed political communications environment on democracy as it has traditionally been practiced in New Zealand. He continues to write for non-academic audiences in New Zealand.
The lecture, which is open to the public, is co-sponsored by the Australia-New Zealand Studies Center and the Department of Political Science.
