Beatty Named Coopers and Lybrand Faculty Fellow

University Park, Pa.--Dr. Anne Beatty, a member of the accounting faculty in Penn State's Smeal College of Business Administration, has been appointed the Coopers and Lybrand Faculty Fellow.

Beatty came to The Smeal College in 1995 from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, where she had taught for four years. Prior to her academic career, she was an auditor and tax consultant for one of the major accounting firms.

She began her studies at the University of Chicago, earning a bachelor's degree in 1982 and an M.B.A. in 1983. Her Ph.D. in accounting is from MIT's Sloan School of Management.

Pursuing research interests in the economic effects of accounting and other topics, Beatty has written articles for the Journal of Accounting and Economics, the Journal of Accounting Research, and the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, among other publications. She has presented her work at numerous conferences and seminars, and is a reviewer for several journals. One of her current projects is exploring trade-offs in the use of investment securities and interest rate swaps.

Beatty has served as the faculty representative to the Big 10 Doctoral Consortium and the faculty adviser for the Deloitte and Touche Case Study Program. She has been a member of the Accounting Department Advisory Committee, the Accounting Department Faculty Recruiting Committee and The Smeal College Faculty Advisory Committee.

In addition to the Coopers and Lybrand Faculty Fellowship, Beatty has received a Smeal College Faculty Research Grant, SEC Financial Reporting Institute Grant, Wharton Financial Institutions Center Grant, and University of Pennsylvania Research Foundation Grant.
