University Park, Pa. -- Professional boxing will enter the ring at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 5 when Terrance Lewis faces 1993 Olympic champion Jeff Wooden.The match, held on the evening of the Pitt-Penn State home football game, will be nationally televised by ESPN. The main event, a 10-round heavyweight, will feature Pennsylvania's No. 1 heavyweight, Terrance Lewis (21-2-0, 16 KO's) versus the 1993 Olympic Gold Festival Champion, Jeff Wooden (17-4-0, 11 KO's). Six other bouts will be scheduled in addition to the main event..
Tickets go on sale Monday, Aug. 11 at 8 a.m. and can be purchased at the Bryce Jordan Ticket Center, Eisenhower Auditorium South Box Office, selected Uni-Mart ticket outlets, Commonwealth Campus ticket outlets, or by calling (814) 865-5555 locally, or toll-free at 1-800-863-3336. Tickets are priced at $22.50, $15 for reserved seating. Penn State students get a 50-percent discount -- limit two tickets per student ID on $15 tickets. Ringside seating and group rates are also available.
A VIP reception to benefit the "Beating the Odds" youth program will be held prior to the boxing event. "Beating The Odds" is about real people who have experienced adversity in their lives and have channeled that adversity into opportunity. The program teaches youth that they become winners by tapping into their own natural resources.
The reception will feature current and former world champions of boxing Larry Holmes, Gerry Cooney and Iran Barkley as well as other celebrities who will be on hand to support this event. For more information on the VIP reception call (814) 944-6690.
