Catley To Discuss Australian Approaches To The Millenium

University Park, Pa. -- Robert Catley, a senior lecturer at the University of Adelaide and a visiting fellow at Penn State's Australia-New Zealand Studies Center, will discuss "Thinking Globally, Acting Regionally: Australia Approaches the Millenniumon Thursday, Sept. 25.

The lecture will be held at 4 p.m. in the Women's Studies Lounge in Sparks Building.

Catley's formal academic work includes an undergraduate degree in economics from the London School of Economics and a Ph.D. in international relations from the Australian National University. He has taught and published widely. Catley has held visiting appointments at a number of Asian and European universities. For a period of years, he took leave from academic life, serving as consultant to various Australian government departments and as private secretary to the minister for defense. In 1990, he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives, representing a South Australian seat asa member of the Australian Labor Party.

The lecture, which is open to the public, is co-sponsored by the Australia-New Zealand Studies Center and the Department of Political Science.
