Teens Can "Test Drive" An Engineering Major This Summer

University Park, Pa. --- Seeing and doing are the best ways for high school students to learn about college majors and careers in engineering. That's what Penn State's summer engineering programs for high school students are all about: Sampling engineering projects and design activities, to learn if a career in engineering is a good fit.

Each of these programs varies in length, academic and social activities, entrance or age requirements, and cost; tuition for programs located at Penn State includes room and board in a residence hall. Applications are due in early April.

VEC-Tour (Venture in Engineering Camp) ñ June 14-20; June 21-27; July 5-11; July 12-18; July 19-25; July 26-Aug. 1

Application Deadline: April 1 (or May 15 with $25 late fee) Week-long camp, run by Penn State engineering students, introduces high school students to the fundamentals of engineering with information sessions and activities, as well as social events. BEST Scholars Program (Business, Engineering, Science & Technology) July 11-Aug. 8

Application Deadline: April 6

A four-week academic enrichment and career awareness activity for students of color entering 11th grade who are interested in pursuing careers in business, engineering, or the sciences. Participants can explore educational opportunities at Penn State and career opportunities with Eastman Kodak Company. Students must be residents of Pennsylvania or New York to apply.
