Ramani & Mohney Recognized

University Park, Pa - Dr. Raja V. Ramani, professor and head of Penn State's Department of Mineral Engineering, has been named recipient of the 1997 Howard L. Hartman Award of the Society of Mining, Metallurgy, and Exploration Inc. The award recognizes Ramani's contributions to the teaching, practice and research of underground ventilation engineering, and will be presented at the 6th International Mine Ventilation Congress in May 1997.
Ramani also received the D. Sc. (Honoris Causa) of the Indian School of Mines in recognition of his distinguished achievement in mining engineering research and education. He was honored at the School's 19th annual convocation, held in Dhanbad, India, in March, 1997. He is a 1962 graduate of the School and was named a distinguished alumnus in 1978.

Dr. Suzanne Mohney, assistant professor of materials science and engineering at Penn State, has received the 1997 Young Leader Award of The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS), representing the society's Electronic, Magnetic and Photonic Materials Division.
The Young Leader award honors outstanding young professionals who are active in the materials field and have leadership potential. As one of 10 Young Leaders, Dr. Mohoney was guest at the recent TMS annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., attending meetings of the board of directors and leading committees, and making important contacts with society members. Dr. Mohney also holds the Faculty Early Career Development Award of the National Science Foundation.
