Kyoto Conference On Climate Change

University Park, Pa. -- In December, representatives from around the world will meet in Kyoto, Japan, for the Third Conference of the Parties of the Framework Convention on Climate Change. The U.S. will be a major player in the proceedings of this critically important conference. Listed below are Penn State scientific and economic experts who can discuss and interpret the upcoming events.

TRADEABLE EMISSIONS PERMITS & ECONOMICS OF GLOBAL WARMING
Dr. Adam Rose, professor and head of the department of energy, environment and mineral economics at Penn State, is co-author of the U.N. publication, "Combating Global Warming: Study on a Global System of Tradeable Carbon Emission Entitlements," and the forthcoming book, "The Marketable Permits Approach to Global Warming Policy" (Chicago Press). He was a participant in the Rio Earth Summit activities and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

GLOBAL WARMING -- PAST & PRESENT
Dr. Robert G. Crane, associate dean, College of Earth and Mineral Sciences, and professor of geography, is a climatologist who studies sea ice and cloud cover in polar areas as they influence general global climate models. He is most interested in climate change, global change studies and in using remote sensing to monitor sea ice and clouds.

HUMAN ASPECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Dr. C. Gregory Knight, professor of geography and director of Penn State's Center for Integrated Regional Assessment, is interested in the potential regional impacts of global climate change on human systems. CIRA is an interdisciplinary center encompassing geography, economics, meteorology and climatology, population and medical statistics, agriculture and risk perception.
