9-15-97
Carlisle, Pa. -- Pennsylvania's Secretary of Agriculture, Samuel E. Hayes Jr., will speak on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at opening ceremonies for the Agricultural Law Research and Education Center at The Dickinson School of Law. The center is a collaborative venture between the School of Law and Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.Hayes will join law school officials, invited guests and the public at the 1 p.m. ceremony at 150 South College St., Carlisle.
The Ag Center is one of only a few in the nation connected with a law school. Dickinson became affiliated with Penn State on July 1, as The Dickinson School of Law of The Pennsylvania State University.
The center is designed to provide leadership in the research and dissemination of information about agricultural-related issues to agricultural producers, food processors, government officials and the general public. It will serve as a resource center for professional articles and extension outreach materials, providing courses, information, and assistance to interested groups.
"We are very excited about the opening of the center because it is illustrative of the kind of interdisciplinary collaboration that is possible through our new affiliation with Penn State," said Center Director Christine Kellett, associate dean and professor at the School of Law.
