Glenda Laws Memorial Lectures Set

1-13-28
University Park, Pa. --- Penn State's Department of Geography announces the Glenda Laws Memorial Lecture Series during the spring 1998 semester.

Six lectures will be held January through March. The first lecture will be Monday, Jan. 26, from 12:15 to 2:00 p.m. in the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum Gallery, Steidle Building, on the University Park campus. Dr. Kim England of the University of Toronto, will speak on "Teen Moms, Welfare Moms, Execu-moms: Geographies of Lone Mothers in Toronto."

Dr. Glenda Laws, associate professor of geography, died suddenly in 1996 from a brain hemorrhage. Her research focused on issues of urban social geography and social justice, specifically among marginalized groups in society, including the mentally ill, the poor and homeless, women, and the elderly. In honor of her many contributions to the fields of geography, gerontology and women's studies, six guest lectures will be presented on topics related to her research. Invited speakers are national experts in their respective fields.

All lectures will be in the Earth and Mineral Sciences Museum Gallery, Steidle Building, which is wheelchair accessible. For further information, please contact Dr. Amy Glasmeier at 865-7323.
