American troops say
cheese with "Joe Paterno"

February 6, 2003

The Penn State Mont Alto Continuing Education Center proudly displayed its life-size cutout of Joe Paterno in its office in the Chambersburg Mall. But when Robert Wood of the AMVETS Post 274 in Carlisle suggested the office ship that same Joe Pa off to United States troops -- and avid Nittany Lion fans -- stationed in Bosnia, the office was happy to comply.

Wood packaged the donated cutout and shipped it to the soldiers overseas. The troops, stationed in an undisclosed location in Bosnia, e-mailed photos of themselves with the popular cutout to staff members at the Penn State Mont Alto Continuing Education Center.
