Mechanical Engineering Landmark
In 1990, The Penn State Heart Assist Pump was named an International Historic Mechanical Engineering Landmark.

25 Years of Penn State Heart Research
In 1995 a symposium, The Artificial Heart: Past, Present and Future was held to recognize the program and honor those involved. Particularly honored was Dr. William S. Pierce, M.D. for his contributions to the project.
