Committee on Institutional Cooperation

The CIC is a consortium of 12 research universities, including the 11 members of the Big Ten Conference and the University of Chicago. The mission of the CIC is to advance academic excellence by sharing resources and promoting and coordinating collaborative activities across the member universities. The CIC is guided by the Provosts of the member universities.

Academic Leadership Program (ALP)

Established in 1987, the Academic Leadership Program (ALP) is designed to develop the leadership and managerial skills of faculty on CIC campuses who have demonstrated exceptional ability and administrative promise.

The CIC ALP Fellows for 2011-12 are:

Larry Cata Backer, W. Richard and Mary Eshelman Faculty Scholar, Professor of Law and International Affairs, and 2011-12 Chair-Elect of the University Faculty Senate, The Dickinson School of Law;

John N. Coupland, Associate Professor of Food Science, College of Agricultural Sciences;

Marianne M. Hillemeier, Associate Professor of Health Policy and Administration and Demography, College of Health and Human Development;

Christopher P. Long, Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Resident Instruction, College of the Liberal Arts;

and, Rose M. Zbiek, Professor of Education and Professor-in-Charge of Mathematics Education, College of Education.

Academic Leadership Program Fellows

Department Executive Officers Program (DEO)

In 1997-98 the CIC initiated an annual program of leadership development opportunities for department heads and chairs (Department Executive Officers or "DEOs"). Institutional team participants include seasoned veterans as well as newer department heads and chairs.
