PA State Grants

The Pennsylvania State Grant is paid in part or in whole by the Commonwealth and is administered by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) to undergraduate Pennsylvania residents who demonstrate high financial need. Grants are considered “gift aid”, meaning they don't need to be re-paid. You do not need to accept the grant in LionPATH. The grant will disburse once the funds are sent to Penn State from PHEAA.

PA State grant award notices from PHEAA should be considered estimates. Even after a student has received a State grant award notice, PHEAA requires a college to conduct additional eligibility checks.

Deadlines

To meet the PA State Grant deadline, PHEAA looks at the student’s FAFSA submission date. The FAFSA contains a direct link to the state grant form. Federal Student Aid (FSA) will transmit your FAFSA data to PHEAA's new GrantUs system. Due to funding, late applications will not be considered.

PA State Grant

The Pennsylvania State Grant is funded by the Commonwealth and awarded by the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) to undergraduate Pennsylvania residents who demonstrate high financial need.

Chafee Education and Training Grant

The Chafee Program offers grant assistance to Pennsylvania undergraduate students aging out of foster care who are attending an approved Federal Title IV postsecondary institution.

Ready to Succeed Scholarship (RTSS)

The Ready to Succeed Scholarship program is funded by the Commonwealth and awarded by PHEAA to assist high achieving middle-income students.

Blind or Deaf Higher Education Beneficiary Grant (BDBG)

The Blind or Deaf Higher Education Beneficiary Grant (BDBG) Program is a Commonwealth funded program that provides financial assistance to deaf or blind students attending a postsecondary institution.

Fostering Independence

The Fostering Independence Tuition Waiver Program provides a waiver for tuition and mandatory fees charged by most postsecondary institutions located in the Commonwealth for youth who are or were in foster care.

Partnerships for Access to Higher Education Grant (PATH)

PHEAA partners with non-profit, community-based Pennsylvania organizations and foundations to provide Pennsylvania students attending eligible Pennsylvania postsecondary institutions with matching funds through the PATH Grant Program.

Pennsylvania National Guard EAP

Together with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, PHEAA administers this tuition assistance program for students who enter into a service commitment with the Pennsylvania National Guard for a period of 6 years.

PA National Guard Military Family Education Program (MFEP)

Together with the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, PHEAA administers this tuition assistance program for dependents (spouses and children) of PA Guard Members who enter into an additional 6-year service commitment with the Pennsylvania National Guard.
