Abdullah Al Kindi named College of Engineering fall student marshal

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Abdullah Al Kindi has been named the student marshal for the Penn State College of Engineering fall commencement ceremony on Dec. 19. Al Kindi will receive concurrent bachelor of science degrees in nuclear engineering and civil engineering.

He has chosen Hassan El-Chabib, instructor of civil engineering, to be his faculty escort.

College of Engineering student marshals are selected for their outstanding academic achievement and contributions to engineering student life.

Al Kindi’s academic awards and honors include the President’s Freshman Award, the President Sparks Award, the Evan Pugh Scholar Award (junior and senior), and the Omani Youth Academic Excellence Award. He was named to the dean’s list every semester and was the recipient of the Ministry of Higher Education of Oman scholarship.

While at Penn State, Al Kindi was a member of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, the National Civil Engineering Honor Society (Chi Epsilon), and the Penn State student chapter of the American Nuclear Society.

His extracurricular activities included THON (fundraiser, 2012), the Omani Student Association (president 2013-2014, vice president 2012-2013), and the tennis club.

Following commencement, Al Kindi will join Schlumberger as a field engineer.
