Penn State Abington senior Chris Liston interned during the pandemic for the Philadelphia office of the audit, tax, and advisory firm Grant Thornton LLP. In a video, he reflects on lessons learned from his time there.
Following his graduation with an accounting degree from Abington in December 2021, he will begin working in a full-time position at Grant Thornton.
Liston said he knew he wanted to complete an internship to boost his career prospects and was assisted in his efforts by campus’s Career and Professional Development unit. The staff helped him professionalize his resume before he submitted applications.
He discovered the Grant Thornton internship through Nittany Lion Careers, Penn State’s recruiting platform for students, alumni, and employers.
As an intern, he assisted the state and local tax team, and he realized the benefits of his Abington education.
“It was nice to see that there were things I learned in class, and I had a chance to apply them. I was able to walk into the room and not have to ask questions,” he said.
